Peter J. Schwab originated this and similar patterns between the mid-1920s and mid-1940s while he was residing in Yreka, California. This fly was inspired by Charles H. Conrad of San Francisco, California. The wings should be cocked upward 40-50°.

Wing - Dark brown bucktail topped with a few strands of lime crystal flash

Topping - Golden pheasant crest

Collar - Yellow saddle hackle

Author's Note

Lakefork Orange is mentioned in Bruce Ferguson, Les Johnson, and Pat Trotters book, Fly Fishing for Pacific Salmon (which see), attributed to Don Hathaway, who tied it for the Salmon River in Idaho. This variation has a yellow collar and a touch of lime Krystal flash instead of a yellow Golden Pheasant crest topping.

Author's Note

This pattern came from the fine book by Peter O'Reilly, Trout & Salmon Flies of Ireland. He writes that this is an old River Moy fly, but is effective there and elsewhere. It's good all season in any water, clear or colored. Other variations are the Blue Goshawk, Orange Goshawk, and Black Goshawk.
